In this video, I continue my series of Google Android videos and discuss the Android Marketplace. The Android Marketplace is Google’s answer to the iTunes App Store. Within the marketplace, you’ll find many applications both free and paid sorted by category. I had heard many stories about how much the Android Marketplace lacked applications, but I really didn’t find that to be the case. When compared to the iTunes App Store, sure it has much less, but there’s plenty there for the average consumer. The controls are simple to navigate, applications include a summary and reviews, and the pricing structures seem decent. I was unable to experience the purchasing process since the review unit I have does not allow one to purchase apps, but downloading free apps was a breeze. Every download occurs in the background and notifies you (via the wonderful Android notification system) when it’s complete. I’ve downloaded quite a few apps, and I plan to try many more using the Google Android Marketplace. Enjoy!

In this video, I continue the WWDC 2008 roundup, and discuss the new features of the iPhone 2.0 software. These new features include Contact Search, Full iWork & MS Office document support, bulk delete email, and other enhancements. The iTunes App store was also talked about Steve Jobs and more details were given regarding it. Most notably, developers will not be charged if they wish to deploy free applications. I think this is a huge plus. Also, the number of countries have increased. Apple has imposed a 10MB limit on applications that are downloaded over the cellular network. If it’s more than 10MB, you can only download apps from the iTunes App store via WiFi and iTunes. Apple introduced Enterprise and Adhoc distribution of custom iPhone apps for those situations where users want semi-public or private distribution of apps.
These features make the iPhone software update a valuable addition to your existing iPhone. Personally, I will not be upgrading to the new iPhone and look forward to this software update. This will be available in early July for existing iPhone users and a $9.95 upgrade for iPod Touch users.

In this video, I demonstrate a great application for the iPhone which simulates many different soothing sounds to help you relax. Often when traveling, these types of devices are used to simulate familiar environments in order to get more rest. White Noise allows you to simulate these noises right on your iPhone! It includes sounds such as Water, Beach, Air, Car Rain, Light Rain, Hair Dryer, Amazon, Cars, White Noise, Pink Noise and the like. I have personally used this application with the “Water” sound to get a good night’s sleep. If you are curious about White Noise, it is absolutely free on the iTunes App Store. Enjoy!

In this video, I discuss a musical application for the iPhone called Ocarina. Ocarina is made by a company called Smule which is popular for their social applications for the iPhone. This application costs $0.99 on the iTunes App Store. In my option, this application really demonstrates the iPhone’s technical abilities that none other can match. To use Ocarina, all you have to do is blow into the microphone! By doing this, it actually plays notes just like a flute. When you create songs, you can share them with other Ocarinians around the world. Using the interface, you can listen to other songs that other people play and favorite them if you wish. By far, this is the coolest app on the iTunes App Store and it only costs $0.99! I highly recommend you check out Ocarina today and learn the make music with your iPhone! Enjoy!

In this video, I demonstrate how to easily obtain custom backgrounds for your iPhone. It is done by using an application called “Backgrounds”. It is available on the iTunes App Store for free. Upon launch it shows you backgrounds which are Popular, Recent and by Category. When you browse the backgrounds, you are presented with a 4 pane view of background previews. You can tap each background to view it full size, and if you like it, click the “Save” button to save it to your camera roll. I wish it would actually change your background but this functionality is not available in the application. So if you want cool backgrounds for your iPhone, check out the Backgrounds application on the iTunes App Store. Enjoy.
